As far as what Gilmore done. Well that started out as a dare and ended up a political nightmare. He pushed that through with much of his own party against it.
And honestly in this years race i don't see a candidate that has a plan. Kilgore says freeze property taxes. That is fine at the one level. But all the counties have to do is keep increasing the rates? So there is no freeze.
Kaine i have issues with. Cause he susposedly has ties to former Gov. Linwood Holton from BSG, but he is never in the area enough to completely lay out his plan.
Honestly i don't even think i'll waste my time voting for a governor this year. As we don't have a candidate in either party, who i can say i think really cares about this area.
And im about tired of them coming here using us for votes, then never keeping their end of their bargains.
Heck about like that VCEDA group of politicians. We'll let you mine the coal but i'll be damned if we will give you anything back. Same with state governemnt.
And as far as the topic. These companies don't pay that price for the gasoline that goes into their tanks. They shouldn't be able to raise prices until they have to pay for it first themselves. Talk about price gouging. Well many stations are doing it to us. How many paid $3.00 bucks a galllon for the gas that was sold for that much last time? I don't remember it being but about $2.25 or so. So someone made some huge profits. Even if it cost them more to get it in. Why did we pay their forcast price, yet they didn't price gouge? Yeah Right.
Couple ole sayings. It takes money to make money. And the rich get richer while the poor get poorer. And we will always have the poor with us, because they are what keep the country running, while the rich walk on their backs.

Well lets just do away with our government and become a socialist country then. You have to put somebody in these postions guys. All you can do is push for than man or woman whom you think will benefit you the most. I mean thats really why we have democrats and republicans in the first place.

No what hurts things was Gilmore took advantage of people being told "hey I'm gonna cut your taxes and give you money" and the people who couldn't think went woooohooo money and voted for him. Of course the very people that helped for 1 year, it has hurt for several years since, but most people, including politicians, don't look at long term affects. They get people to bungy jump off the bridge, telling them how safe it is, don't measure the cord, and even if you don't die on the jump, they got no way to pull you back up.

That is the problem green we bascially have become a monarchy or a socialist country.
Look at who has done what the longest. Repbulican ran country we suffer due to being to out going. And increasing our debt.
Democratic run country we suffer from doing nothing at all. And basically standing still.
Basically were at that point.
Honestly. We have been there for quite some time. It makes no difference who is in office.

Yet years later when a Democrat wins your guaranteed to hear what. The debt created by the republicans, so no raises and massive layoffs.

Well you know, you may be right Greencrest, those evil people may have lead Dickenson County straight to the gates of hell...of course I dont recall it being much better before them, we had to borrow money a few years back to pay bills at the end of the year. I also recall a few years back when the board was swung the other way, that they tried to send money back to the state saying we had good enough roads. Trust me, I used to be a very political person, but when you work around some of them, you find out there are good, there are bad on both sides, but most on either side can't see the forest for the trees.

It easier to say that Democrats or Republican screwed up the government at the local level than at the Federal level. At the federal level there is the checks and balances system. Everything has to be approved by both Democrats and Republicans. Bush just didnt start writing checks out that the U.S. couldnt cash by himself. Republicans and Demorcrats alike had to give him permission. At the local level however, if the vote is 4-1 in favor of the democrats, they have control, no mattter what and they are going to do what they want because they can. Nobody checks them. This is ecxactly what is going on in Dickenson county.

I agree whole heartedly that this country is going in the wrong direction with all this debt. Im sure that some people would have made some different decisions concerning Iraq knowing what we know now. And noone can do anything about these hurricanes. We as a country are going to have to unite for the betterment of ourselves.
